  • WRTC 2014 : are you ready ?

Browsing the net, a very interesting site come out from the myriad of google results: the World Radiosport Team Championship 2014. Just for newcomers, 2 words to explain the spirit of the competition:

"The World Radiosport Team Championship (WRTC) is held every four years and consists of approximately 50 two-person teams of amateur radio operators competing in a test of operating skill. Unlike most on-the-air competitions, all stations are required to use identical antennas from the same geographic region, eliminating all variables except operating ability." (quote from www.wrtc2014.org)

I see in the board of Directors the name of Andy, N2NT. A quick email exchange with Andy, and i ask the permission to have a direct comment about the competition from the Head Director, Mr. Doug Grant K1DG.

My request for a comment started also because, if we take a look to EU2 chart score for the qualification standings (http://wrtc2014.org/images/qualifying/EU2.xls) we can see 12 Italians in the Top 20 !!

Well, this is the Doug reply and comment about WRTC 2014:

    Hello, Cristiano,

Thanks for your interest in WRTC2014.

As you probably know, we are about halfway through the qualifying
process, and several Italian ops are leading the EU2 region. We look
forward to welcoming them to New England in 2014.

We are very actively planning and preparing the WRTC2014 event now. We
will soon announce the suppliers for some of the materials we will
have available for the stations (beams, etc.).

This coming weekend is Contest University Italy in Montichiari,
organized by Stefano, IK2QEI. One of the speakers is Randy, K5ZD, and
he will discuss more info on WRTC2014 at that time.

If you are attending, you can get a copy of his PPT slides and use
    them on your site.

Stefano is also in charge of WRTC2014 fundraising in the EU2 region.
We would like to see some clubs in Italy become tent sponsors - the
cost for that recognition is 750 euro. Perhaps a few clubs can work
together to raise that amount and have their logo displayed on a
    WRTC2014 tent.

    73 and ciao,

    Doug K1DG

The event, as we can read, is a great occasion for the Italians contesters and clubs to got "the root" on world scale. Maybe an alliance into the various Italians clubs who knows...

Next step on this forum is to publish the PPT slides, courtesy of Randy K5ZD, and keep in touch with Stefano IK2QEI to - maybe - pilot a series of articles in Italian and English to promote and coordinate the support for WRTC 2014 team.

Well, now the best opportunity for those interested in the competition, is for all those are going to Contest University that can have the chance to speak directly to Stefano and Randy

That's all folks , for now.
